In one of the most densely populated cities in the world, Hong Kong, Kit Lee is finding loads of space-mental space. Kit’s journey into building her own meditation practice, Sitsat Meditation, started nearly a year ago when she found herself unmotivated and overworked by the demands of her career in corporate retail. Trying to clear her mind, she downloaded the meditation app-Headspace, and you can say the rest is history.
Fast forward one year later and Kit Lee is emerging as one of Hong Kong’s leading meditation coaches. While in United States we are inundated with the latest trends in health and wellness, in Hong Kong, the idea of mental and emotional health is still pretty novel. Kit wants to change how people think of meditation, “It’s not about clearing your mind but training your brain.” Kit hopes that one day practicing meditation is as common as going to the gym for people.
What has surprised you the most in transitioning out of your corporate job?
How quickly you can change and transform. In March I am leading a meditation session at the Iris Festival, Hong Kong`s largest health and wellness festival. If you had asked me a year ago if I would be doing that I would have thought you were out of your mind.
What are you looking forward to?
Continuing to build awareness on the positive effects of meditation and growing the meditation community in Hong Kong. In the next few years, I would love to be able to be a part of a youth outreach program, just to be able to show children how to manage their emotions versus suppressing them would really ignite change for the future.
What is your Power suit?
I love Yoga Pants! I feel most comfortable in them and they are the perfect for meditation.
If you ever find yourself in Hong Kong sign-up for a meditation class with Kit, your brain will thank you.
